Extra-Scientific Activities

  LASIGE - Large-Scale Informatics Systems Laboratory
LASIGE - Large-Scale Informatics Systems Laboratory is a research unit of the Informatics Department (DI) of the University of Lisboa, Faculty of Sciences (FCUL). The Laboratory spreads its activity through several sub-areas of Informatics (Computer Science and Engineering) including Distributed Systems, Human Computer Interaction and Multimedia, Information Management, Security and Dependability. LaSIGE follows a research-line centred strategy, currently covering the following lines that embody the unit's mid/long-term research objectives:

  - Biomedical Informatics;
  - Communication System Software and Middleware;
  - Fault and Intrusion Tolerance in Open Distributed Systems;
  - Global Computing
  - Human Computer Interaction and Multimedia;
  - Information Management;
  - Timeliness and Adaptation in Dependable Systems

LASIGE research activities are funded by FCUL, by FCT (through the multiannual funding programme and national research projects), and by international projects (mainly, E.U. projects). LASIGE has approximately 84 collaborators, 33 of which hold a doctoral degree, 30 are researchers in the middle of their Ph.D. programmes and 18 are MS.C students or junior researchers. The current Director is Prof. Paulo Veríssimo.

Best Student Paper Award - Pervasive Health 2009


Marco de Sá was distinguished with the Best Student Paper Award Sponsored by NOKIA at the 3rd International Conference on Pervasive Computing Technologies for Healthcare 2009, with his work Mobile Support for Personalized Therapies - OmniSCOPE: Richer Artefacts and Data Collection, co-authored with Prof. Luís Carriço.
